Part of the mission of the Justice Reform Coalition is to hold our officials and system accountable, to educate the community on holding our officials and system accountable, and to establish the means and facility for doing so. To do this we are building investigation and reporting facilities and sponsoring a Bail-Bond service.
As a part of this goal we are training community investigators to assist the JRC and other organizations when issues come up and we need to research a situation, get to the facts, and report back on it. This we call our Community Service Investigations. This group is lead by our Chief of Investigations, Ernie Carter. and assisted by one of our Directors, Suzanne Brooks, who is a licensed Private Investigator. Our goal is to establish reporting, intake and investigation centers in communities where these community investigators can operate from and we the community can access their services. In addition we are organizing quick response teams, that can be called in immediately when an officer involved shooting or excessive use of force situation happens in the community or behind bars.
As part of the training we will partner with schools teaching investigations, forensics, and law enforcement, as well as brimg in professionals in these fields to teach community people and students of these disciplines who are interested in this aspect of community advocacy with the ultimate goal of producing licensed community private investigators. This training is a part of our Grass Roots Organizing Academy. Upon completion of our training the individual will become a Community Investigator, and be eligible to work with our for hire service and be paid. We are also training, legal observers, court observers, community reporters, and legislative observers.
The system watches and investigates the community, now the community will do likewise to the system. This is a great opportunity for young people, and others to really get involved in making a positive change in their community, and help bring accountability and power to the people. This is a key component to our community work.
