JOURNEY FOR

JUSTICE 2008

The Third Annual California Central Valley Journey for Justice took place on June 28th, 2008 in Chowchilla, California. This was a fitting place for this event as the theme was "Addressing the Crime of Poverty". Chowchilla is one of the poorest communities in California, with the largest concentration of prisons and holding facilities in the state. This year's one day forum, was a change from the week long carravan of stops through the California Central Valley, of the past two years.

It was put on as usual byt he J4J coalition of organizations which come together to bring attention the plight of the poor, the homeless, and the communities of color in California. There were four major panel discussion with a follow-up community discussion at the end. The panels were:

1. Incarceration/Prisons/Police on the rise - a Need for Community Solutions

2. Housing Crisis/ Homelessness on the Rise/Forclosures

3. Health Care - A Human Right not a Political Issue

4. Economic Crisis - Budget Cuts.

The event was well attended with people from all over the Central Valley. The following is a snipet from the event. The JRC has been a part of this effort from the begining, and will continue to do so.
